Have you ever typed a question into AI, gotten a polished answer, and thought, “Great, I’ll just send this to my client”? It’s tempting, but it can also backfire. That’s why I want to remind everyone of the three things you shouldn’t use AI for, and how to protect your relationships and your business.
1. Legal, financial, and tax advice. The first area you should never hand over to AI is legal, financial, or tax advice. These are topics where only licensed professionals should guide your clients. If you type something into AI, grab the response, and pass it along without proper authority, you put yourself at risk. Leave those questions to the people trained and approved to answer them.
2. Replacing genuine client relationships. The second issue is relying on AI to communicate for you. I can tell you with confidence: people know when a message comes from AI. Whether it’s an email, a text, or anything else, there are subtle signals that give it away.
AI can help you draft ideas, but it can’t build trust for you. Your clients still need your personal touch. They need empathy and to feel that you’re the one speaking to them. So don’t send anything that’s 100% computer-generated. Make sure your tone, intention, and personality come through.
3. Property pricing and evaluations. The third thing you shouldn’t rely on AI for is pricing or property evaluation. You can type anything into AI: comps, pricing ideas, and property details, but that shouldn’t be what drives the final number.
The right way is still the old-fashioned way. Go into the MLS. Compare true apples to apples. A CMA or pricing suggestion shouldn’t come solely from AI. Your judgment and experience are what matter here.
Use AI carefully, not blindly. Those are the top three things agents should not use AI for, or at least should approach with a lot of caution. AI is helpful, but it wasn’t designed to replace professional advice, genuine client relationships, or hands-on pricing work.
